Let's Rock! The style of a rocker is based on the many styles of Rock and Roll from the past years, usually from the 50's and 60's up until the end of the grunge movement. Attire There are many different things that may be found in the closet of a rocker, including styles from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and sometimes the early 90's. 50's Jeans, T-shirts, Gas Station Shirts, Denim Jackets, Sneakers (namely Chuck Taylor All Star) and motorcycle wear such as leather jackets and engineer boots. Notable hairstyles were slicked-back hair and pompadours. Motor vehicles such as hot rods and motorcycles were a central part of the subculture. See Greaser 60's Tie-Dye T-shirts, Bell bottom/flared jeans, Peace Symbols, Band t-shirts of psychedelic bands, Exotic 'ethnic' fashions(i.e. Native American, Rastafarian, Zen etc). See Hippie 70's & 80's Converse Chuck Taylor shoes, band t-shirts specific to bands of those eras (such as AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Motley Crue, The Police, and many other similar bands.) Psychedelic posters, images, and blacklights, usually represent the 60's and 70's, due to use of drugs such as Marijuana. Bell bottom pants, leather jackets, denim jackets, eyeliner (and sometimes other makeup), ripped or torn jeans, or any sort of psychedelic clothing. See punk, heavy metal Early 90's and beyond The rocker style isn't usually influenced as much by the style of the 90's as it is the styles of other decades, however, Grunge rock did bring a few new styles that may be displayed by a rocker. Most of these styles can also be contributed from other eras, such as ripped or torn jeans from the 80's. After Grunge, there is hardly anything that effects the rocker style. Garage rock revival of the 2000's is usually the only kind of music created after 2000 that rockers listen to. non-specific/other There are some things that are not specific to one era but are important to the style of a rocker, such as long hair, a laid back, aloof attitude, and sometimes being very energetic when required, such as at concerts or while perorming. Genres of music that influence the style Rockabilly, psychedelic rock, hard rock, glam, glam metal, heavy metal, reggae, ska, early Punk, NWOBHM, and grunge are generally considered the genres that effect the style. Personality and Beliefs Rockers tend to have a similar point of view and personality, this makes them sucject to stereotyping. Rockers and often associated with marijuana and a laid back, aloof attitude. They are often stereotyped by store owners as shoplifters, and upper class members of society as criminals, or as a menace.
